Bishop Dunn Memorial School Parent Guild Minutes: Meeting Date-March 10, 2014

The meeting was called to order by Jennifer Cestaro at 9:10 am.
Mrs. Kellogg began the meeting with a prayer from the new youth ministry program at BDMS. This new program was very well attended. Thank you to Laura Sullivan, Lisa Davis, Kim Titolo, Anne Giraudin, Tori Labrenz, Christine Dziegelewski and Pete Sukeena. KC Powles is also a great help with technical advice.
The minutes from the February 6th meeting were presented. Pat Greico made the motion to accept the minutes as written; Trisha Najork seconded the motion. The motion carried. There were no dissentions.
Ann-Marie Murphy presented the treasurer’s report. The Parent Guild earned $173 from Spirit Wear and $5.00 dues payment from a parent. The current balance in the Parent Guild account is $2569.25.
Trisha Najork made the motion to accept the treasurer’s report, Karen Kellogg seconded the motion. The motion carried. There were no dissentions.
The order from for the Spirit Wear is on the web page under special flyers. A new order form for “I Love BDM” t-shirts will be added to the web page as well.
Family Ice Skating at IceTime Sports Complex is set for 3/16/14. Notices have gone home with the children. Thank you to Rob Stipak for arranging this event.
The Father/Daughter Dance is scheduled to be held on March 29, 2014 from 4-6:30. Both the date and time are a change from previous information. The cost will be $20.00 for each father/daughter and $5.00 extra for each additional attendee. This cost covers a DJ and 1 picture. The theme is “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” in pink. The committee consists of Ann-Marie Murphy, Karen Ali, Melinda Bobnick, Concetta Cracolici and Laura Graham. Invitations will be coming home shortly.
The Parent Guild will also be planning a mother/son event in the future. This will be discussed and placed on the calendar for next year.
Auction: Trish Najork, a co-chair, presented a report on the auction. It was a fabulous evening. The auctioneer kept things moving at a fever pitch. The general feel of the evening was very positive and energetic. New co-chairs are being sought for the event. The date, place and auctioneer are being settled now. If interested in working being part of the auction committee, please contact Mrs. Greico in the Development Office. It is not too early to start planning for next year.
Parent Guild Elections: Candidates are being sought for the officers of the Parent Guild. Each candidate should submit a short bio (3-5 lines) to present to the school population. All names should be submitted with the bios by April 7th to be presented at the next Parent Guild meeting. Elections results will be finalized at the May 5th meeting. Ballots will be sent home April 30th, due back by May 2nd.
Easter Brunch is set for April 12 from 11-1 in the BDMS gym and field. Fathers will be cooking; there will be an Easter egg hunt and craft. Trisha Najork and Christina Shustock are looking for a committee to assist with this. The cost will be $5.00 per child.
Field Day is set for May 21. Mrs. Bazile is working with Stop and Shop to provide nutritious treats for all that day. The Race for Education will be part of Field Day. Mrs. Middlemiss mentioned how much she liked the buddy system that paired the older students with the younger students for each event. Mr. Corrado will coordinate the day’s events. Volunteers will be needed to assist the children at each station. Notices will be going home in April with more information.
End of Year Ice Cream Social: date has been moved to June 20, 2014 which is the last Friday of the school year.
Catholic Schools” Night at Renegades: Scheduled for Tuesday, June 24th. Flyer will be coming home. Full Armor Band is performing. BDMS earns $3.00 for every ticket sold. All ticket purchases will be done on line.
Mrs. Kellogg met with Donnelly’s. This was a transition year to modify and streamline the uniform code. White shirts/blue pants still uniform. Code will also include navy blue shirt/khaki pants for grades 1-5. Uniforms for grades 6-8 will remain the same.
Parent Academy will be held on March 27th to explain/demonstrate the Common Core. Mrs. Kellogg said that became apparent at her Parent Coffees that greater clarity was needed about the Common Core. Teachers will be offering mini- lessons; parents can participate in the lesson.
A dress down is scheduled for Monday March 17th. A $2.00 donation is requested to support Muscular Dystrophy and Leukemia Foundation.
A reminder: Holy Thursday will be a full day of classes.
