Summer Fundamentals

FUNdamentals—A Great Summer “Fit”

Thank you for your interest in our summer academic, arts and enrichment camp, Summer FUNdamentals, which begins its 16th year of operation this coming June. At our camp, which is a cooperative venture between Bishop Dunn Memorial School and Mount Saint Mary College, we have developed a program over the last 15 years that remains unique in the region in the mix of drama, art, academic, recreation, and sports activities that are offered.

Because of the choices students have for each of the six hourly program blocks that are offered over the course of the day, we think of Summer FUNdamentals as a kind of summer suit that can be custom-fit to your child’s tastes and interests. In our ongoing effort to keep providing a stimulating and challenging environment for both new and returning program participants, last year we restructured the way in which academic activities were offered, and also broke up our overall program into two-week blocks, so that participants can switch from one activity to another more easily through our six-week program. We were so pleased with the re-organization that we will again offer three two-week sessions.  In addition to our popular full-morning remediation program for those seeking  more intensive reading and math instruction for their children over the summer, we will also offer a half dozen other academic and arts enrichment classes, and an equal number of arts and recreation activities that have been added over the years, including table tennis, cheerleading and chess. A half-day drama program for older students, which was introduced last year, will also be offered again.

One of the best things about Summer FUNdamentals is that our camp is virtually weather-proof. There are plenty of outdoor sports and recreational activities, but we also have two gyms available and completely air conditioned activity rooms to go to, when it’s too hot or too wet to be outside.

If you think Summer FUNdamentals might be a good fit for your child, we welcome you to “try us on” this summer. As an extra incentive, we will continue our policy of offering an early registration discount. Just make sure to get your application and deposit in by April 1, 2010, and you will be charged last year’s tuition rate!  As an added incentive to sign up early, please be aware that a number of our programs have enrollment limits with places filled on a first-come, first-served basis. More detailed information about tuition rates, course offerings and other changes in this summer’s program are included

in the full application package, BUT YOU CAN ONLY RECEIVE THIS PACKAGE BY COMPLETING AND SENDING IN THE ATTACHED FORM. If you can’t wait for the application package and would like more information now, call 569-3306.
