FUNdamentals—A Great Summer “Fit”
Thank you for your interest in our summer academic, arts and enrichment camp, Summer FUNdamentals, which begins its 13th year of operation this coming June. At our camp, which is a cooperative venture between Bishop Dunn Memorial School and Mount Saint Mary College, we feel we have developed programs over the last 12 years that remain unique in the region in the mix of drama, art, academic, recreation, and sports activities that are offered.
Because of the choices students have for each of the six hourly program blocks that are offered over the course of the day, we think of Summer FUNdamentals as a kind of summer suit that can be custom-fit to your child’s tastes and interests. In our ongoing effort to keep providing a stimulating and challenging environment for both new and returning program participants, we have again made some “adjustments,” including creating a special half-day session specifically for 8th graders, and adding a table tennis/table games session to our recreation/sports program. In addition to our full-morning remediation program, designed to address the problem that some students experience of regressing in their basic academic skills over the summer, we also offer a half dozen other academic enrichment classes, including several new courses this year modeled after ones offering over the years in our popular weekend Academic Adventures program. One of the best things about Summer FUNdamentals is that, like a good raincoat, our camp is virtually weather-proof. There are plenty of outdoor activities offered, but we also have two gyms available and completely air conditioned multi-purpose rooms to go to, when its too hot or too wet to be outside.
If you think, Summer FUNdamentals might be a good fit for your child, we welcome you to “try us on for size” this summer. We also strongly encourage you to sign up as early as possible, because all of the wonderful program choices that might suit your child well may not be still available as our summer start date gets closer. Not only do we have enrollment limits for our grade groups, but a number of the individual programs also have limited space with places filled on a first-come, first-served basis. More detailed information about tuition rates, course offerings and other changes in this summer’s program are included in the full application package, BUT YOU CAN ONLY RECEIVE THIS PACKAGE BY COMPLETING AND SENDING IN THE FORM AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE. If you can’t wait for the application package and would like more information now, call 569-3306.
Beginning in mid-July, Mount Saint Mary College will offer its own summer soccer and basketball clinics. Summer FUNdamentals participants are welcome to take a week or two off from our program to take part in these clinics. For information about the college’s camps, call the Kaplan Center, 569-3594.
