Kindergarten - Miss LoCasto
Welcome to Kindergarten! We are "Beary" Glad to meet you!
The theme throughout classroom and the year is bears. There are bears everywhere throughout the curriculum and the day. Mr. Bear (the classroom bear) has a mystery item or items in his basket each day. The children are detectives and have to try to find out what Mr. Bear wants us to learn about for that day. Mr. Bear's basket might even contain a few surprises for the children.
The kindergarten class is inovled with an interactive approach to learning skills and concepts. Technology is utilized throughout the curriculum through the use of a smartboard and the computers in our classroom. Many manipulatives and real life examples are used in the classroom. The day is split where half of the lessons are whole group and the other half is in small groups. By utilizing the small groups we are better able to meet the needs and learning styles in the classroom. The children are encouraged to explore their world around them and to be proud of their accomplishments. We are an active classroom where each child's voice is heard. The class moto of always trying your best helps each child to feel proud of what they are capable of doing. Our lessons and activites are based on the Essential Learnings of the Archdiocese of New York based on the New York State Standards. The reading program focuses on a letter of the week format. Within this format the children are recognizing the
letter, the sound associated with the letter, writing the letter and reading sight word readers that incorporate the letter of the week. Our math lessons utilize the use of technology through the smartboard as well as many hands on activites to learn skills and concepts. Our science and social studies lessons are based on monthly themes. Many science experiments are conducted. Our main science project for the year is creating and caring for our tire garden of beautiful flowers. Our social studies lessons utilize resources in our community, our class parents and friends and the magazine Let's Find Out. Religion is taught through daily
prayers. To help us explore our relationship with God and Jesus we use Promise Gospel Weeklies.
Come journey with us on our adventure through the year.
