Use the Burrowing Owl Fact Sheet to answer the following questions:

   1. What is the latin name for the species Burrowing Owl?

   2. Describe the Burrowing Owl's habitat.

   3. What are the main threats to these owls?

4. Visit the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service Threatened and Endangered Animals website. How many threatened and endangered species are there in New York State?

5. Use the U.S. Department of Environmental Protection Agency website to find three other endangered species. List the names of each species, and tell why they are threatened.

6. Search the internet to find out where and when Carl Hiaasen was born.

7. Hoot contains many references to unusual pancake recipes. Search www.epicurious.com for a pancake recipe you might like to try, and paste the recipe into your document.

8. Mullet Fingers sets out to sabotage the Mother Paula's building project because he wants to save the owls. Are there any situations you feel strongly about that would make you act like Mullet Fingers?

9. Officer Delinko says that pulling up the surveying stakes at Mother Paula’s isn’t vandalism, but is considered “trespassing and malicious mischief.”  Search the internet to find laws regarding trespassing and paste a summary into your answer document.
